Lauren Nigri was born in Barrington, Illinois in 1986. From a very young age she was always drawing. She would bring her mother drawings all the time to put on the refrigerator. When she was in grade school she would go to art and theatre camps that furthered her love for the arts at a young age. She was always fascinated with children's books, her mother would read to her every night before bed. Subconsciously these experiences where changing her appearance of the world around her and expanding her imagination as an artist. The illustrations gave her an imagination that she was yet to understand at her age.
As she got older it would start to make more sense to her. In High school she new that regular academics weren’t fulfilling her needs but her love for art continued to grow. She was inspired by her art teachers and received a 1st place award for her work in high school upon graduation. She started school at the University of Iowa in 2004 with a major in Fine Art and another in Theatre Arts. Upon entering she thought she was going to get her BFA in painting. She studied abroad in Florence, Italy for a semester and her mind suddenly changed. Her travels in Europe gave her a perspective on printmaking and as soon as she returned she took a printmaking class at the University. She instantly fell in love and declared a BFA in printmaking soon after. Towards the end of her time as a student she stumble onto The Center for the Book, a school that teaches book arts. She took a Moveable and sculptural book as well as a Pop-up book class and flourished.
She graduated in May with a BFA in Printmaking and a BA in Theatre Arts. She continues to make books, prints, paintings and draws a lot. She hopes o become an illustrator and create her own books, she also hope to become a scenic artist for theatre. |
